The CLOSING the BONES ceremony is given in your own home. It is a unique, nurturing postpartum experience unlike any other.
A time for you to recuperate and honor the birth journey you have been through. I usually come to your home at 10 am and I prepare your room which takes about 20 minutes. You don’t have to prepare anything yourself unless you want too. I look like I am moving in when I arrive! with a small pop-up tent, portable tub, 2 large pans of soothing herbal water, a mattress and rebozo, towels and blankets.

We have a tea and we talk about your birth story and quite often you might feed your baby during this time. Then I take you into the warm, quiet, soothing darkened room and you lie on a warm mattress and I give a full nurturing body massage with warming oils. It is up to you whether you lie naked or with underwear. You are covered the whole time and only the limb I am massaging is ever exposed. If you wish I play sounds from a rainforest or music of your choice. Feeling in a place of deep relaxation I then lead you into a little dark steam tent. You climb into the tub and can sit cross legged or however is comfortable. I come in the tent and slowly and gently pour the steaming herbs over your back and body. This is often a moment of recognition of your birth experience and any emotions you may be sheltering can bubble to the surface. Some mother’s sing , say words they associate with their birth, sit in quiet contemplation , shout or weep. For many it is profoundly healing.
Having heated up in the steam tent and brought out the heat in your body and emotions, you come out and lie down on the floor. I cover you with towels , blankets from many different parts of the world. These cloths are special to me as they have been used by mothers and birth attendants I have met during my work and I sense they are marinated ( and washed) with a sense of positive mothering love and care. You lie for 20 minutes in this warm cocoon with just your nose and mouth visible.
Finally you sit up and change into some clean, light clothes and I lay out 7 mexican rebozo scarfs to complete the ‘closing the Bones’ ceremony. When you lie on the rebozo I first rock, soothe and wrap your head. I move slowly down your body gently rocking and swaying each limb with a rebozo. Your shoulders, your arms, ribcage, pelvis , legs , feet and to complete I wrap you tightly momentarily at each place to bring ‘closure’ to your time as a new postpartum mother. Your new journey is beginning.
The whole process lasts approximately 3-4 hours. Time to talk about your birth story, a nurturing massage with warming oils, spend time in a steam tent resting in a tub infused with a healing herbal brew, be wrapped and attended with towels and blankets and finally be held and cocooned with mexican rebozo scarves.
I bring intention, experienced care, love and respect for all that you have been through as a birthing mother and new parent. Every new parent should be able to experience this type of treatment.
In Mexico this is a traditional postnatal treatment given from 10 days to even years postpartum. It is often gifted to mothers by the birth attendants.
This is an extremely unique healing session that embraces, listens and brings closure to your postnatal body. It makes you feel special and cared for in a unique way.
How how much does it cost? This unique complete experience will take 3-4 hours . This will cost £200 incl travel within a 20 mile radius.
Gift vouchers available . This is a beautiful postnatal gift that honors and gives space for a new parent or a ‘still parent’ who is grieving loss to process and adapt to their new situation and family. So often postpartum, the focus is on the baby, however the birthing mother is the person who needs sensitive care and time to process her birth experience. This is the perfect gift .
I have trained with Mexican Midwife Naoli Vinaver, She is world reknowned for her beautiful intuition and training in CtB and massage using traditional Rebozo scarfs , Sophie Messager Doula and most recently with Daia Brunetto Doula & Holistic health.
